My background is almost solely independent. I’ve taken some photo courses, but only after I was already established and I was merely looking to round out my skill set. Last year, for instance, I did an intermediate level film course to bring up my darkroom skills and an alternative process class to try out a few new techniques for analog printing. Most of what I know in the darkroom, I taught myself from reading Ansel Adams’ book The Print. Most of everything else has been doing the math and science on my own along with a lot of trial and error.
